Tickets Les Miserables

Eternal human themes are often the inspiration and force behind great works of art. This is absolutely true when it comes to musicals. Les Miserables is one of the most endearing and revered dramatic productions of the past century.

Before the musical adaptation, Les Miserables was a secondary novel by the author Victor Hugo. Completely overshadowed by literary successes like The Count Of Monte Cristo and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame', Les Miserables was foreign to a wide audience until its triumphant entrance as a major Broadway musical.

Directors with prominence such as Orson Welles embraced it, but it wasn't until the modern adaptation that a modern audience found it extraordinary. Initially, the 1980 musical production of Les Miserables was met with negative reviews. The adaption by the composer/writer team of Claude Michel-Shönberg and Alain Boublil was a bit too much for critics to understand. The production glamorized the travails of the poor to achieve greatness and meaning.

Over three decades, Les Miserables increasingly became popular with music, acting and media communities all over the world. The heroic, yet tragic transformation of the main character Jean Valjean connected intimately with a new audience. Les Miserables has enjoyed a 30 year run earning numerous awards. It was the first western Broadway musical premiered in Communist China, and inspired a full-length feature film adaptation starring none other than Hugh Jackman in the lead role.
