The Argentinian men's national rugby union team are known as Los Pumas and have a long history of playing international matches against nations from all over the world. The team traditionally play in blue and white hooped jerseys and white shorts and are historically the dominant rugby team in the Americas.
Argentina played their first international match against the British and Irish Lions in 1910 and have appeared at every rugby World Cup event that has been held. Los Pumas are generally ranked in the top 10 of rugby teams and have beaten the majority of the major rugby playing nations, including Australia, England and France. Within the Americas Argentina have a major rival in Canada, who by the start of the 21st century were the only team in North or South America to defeat them.
At the time of their first international match, a 28-3 loss to the British and Irish Lions, Argentina alternated between white and blue jerseys before beginning to wear the more traditional blue and white hoops from 1927 onwards. The team does not have a dedicated home stadium and tours between different grounds depending on the size of the opponent they are facing. Buenos Aires is the most commonly used city for tests after the first ever test match played by Argentina took place in the city with the Velez Sarsfield stadium remaining in common use for major games. In 2013 legendary center Felipe Contepomi retired as the most capped player in Argentinian history with 87 matches and the leading point scorer of all time with 651.
