Tickets Ireland

The history of Ireland’s Rugby team traces back to different football games that were played long time ago even before 19th century, although it wasn’t until mid that century when rules were put together and codified. The football code later referred to as rugby union is able to be linked with 3 events: the foremost combination of written set of laws in 1845, the Blackheath Club’s choice to go away from the Football Association in the year 1863 and the creation of the Rugby Football Union in the year 1871.

The system was initially recognized as “rugby football”. After the 1895 schism regarding payment of the players, which led to the creation of another separate system of the rugby league, the title “rugby football” was utilized to distinguish the initial rugby system. For majority of rugby’s history, it was stringently an amateur football system, and the managers of sports often imposed prohibitions and limitations on players whom they perceived as professional. In 1995 the rugby union was confirmed an “open” sport, and therefore professionalism was endorsed by the governing body of the system- the “International Rugby Board”.

However, the roots of contemporary rugby union in Ireland can be traced back to 1989 when the Dublin Blues were established by Brian Corrigan.

Since time immemorial, Ireland has participated in 26 full international matches, winning 15 as well as losing 8 with 3 draws. Since it is not a complete affiliate of “Rugby League International Federation”, these games aren’t considered as tests. Ireland has as well participated in friendly matches against Australia and also Scotland.
