symphonic metal, progressive metal, classical
I'm a fan
Musically, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is one of the most unusual and innovative groups that have ever been formed. They are a "progressive metal" band that has been in existence for eighteen full years (though their lineup has changed several times during that period)., and they include elements of classical music in much of their work, which has also been given such labels as "symphonic metal" and "neo- classical." Lyricist and composer Paul O'Neill had been workiny with such other bands as Aerosmith, AC/DC, and the Scorpions before founding TSO. Besides music videos and albums, the band has also done many rock operas, inclding some for Christmas (e.g. Christmas Eve and Other Stories, made in 1996).
Trans-Siberian Orchestra is very innovative; the music video to their song "Wizards in Winter" is striking for the way in which the lights on the building and the trees are lit up in a choreographed pattern that almost makes the viewer want to dance. They have even split up into two groups, each of which can tour independently. And practically every concert or
festival that they hold is marked by the use of lasers and pyrotechnics. The whole thing is absolutely unforgettable for anyone attending it.
Billboard has ranked Trans-Siberian Orchestra among the Top 25 Touring Artists of the decade from 2000 - 2009. Read more
